Artist Statement:
For this collection, I worked primarily in acrylic paint and super heavy gel medium, creating abstract textural artwork. Texture is an important part of my work, adding depth, movement, and dimension to each piece. Rather than creating a specific subject, I allow color, texture, and form to become the focus.
I begin each painting by applying gel medium to the canvas. Sometimes I have an idea of where I want the texture to go, and other times I simply let the process happen naturally. Once the surface is dry, I apply a base color over the entire piece and begin building layers of color, allowing the texture to guide me.
As a self-taught artist, my process is intuitive and guided by what feels right as I work. Sometimes I begin with a color palette in mind, while other times I simply respond to what develops on the canvas. I enjoy allowing the painting to evolve rather than trying to control the outcome.
Abstract art is the balance to my professional life, which is extremely structured. The freedom I find in painting this way helps me to relax and reset. I am constantly learning and trying new things.
My hope is that everyone who experiences my paintings finds something meaningful within them.
